Tragic Incident: Police Officer Shoots Girlfriend and Commits Suicide

A deeply tragic incident unfolded in Standerton, Mpumalanga, as a police officer identified as Constable Mahlemakhulu from Val SAPS allegedly shot his girlfriend, Constable Molefe, who served at Sakhile SAPS. Following the shooting, Constable Mahlemakhulu took his own life. The incident occurred when Constable Mahlemakhulu, while on patrol with his colleagues, noticed his girlfriend’s car parked on Charl Cilliers Street.According to reports, Constable Mahlemakhulu approached the vehicle and discovered his girlfriend inside with an unknown male. A confrontation reportedly ensued after Constable Mahlemakhulu took his girlfriend’s cellphone and returned to the police vehicle. Constable Molefe followed him, and it was during this moment that the tragic event unfolded.

Allegedly, Constable Mahlemakhulu drew his firearm and shot Constable Molefe five times near the police vehicle. Subsequently, he approached his girlfriend’s vehicle, only to find that the unknown male had already fled the scene. Disturbingly, Constable Mahlemakhulu then turned the firearm on himself, taking his own life.

This heartbreaking incident has left the community and the police force in shock as they grapple with the loss of two members. The circumstances leading to the confrontation and subsequent violence remain under investigation.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) will likely conduct an internal investigation to determine the factors that may have contributed to this tragic event. Support and counseling services may also be offered to those affected by the incident, including family members, colleagues, and witnesses.
