There is a strong emphasis on love, family, and endurance throughout the narrative. To start, it emphasises the significance of infants as the cornerstone of humanity’s legacy and the innocence that they possess.
Stephen is introduced in the story as a young man who is both hard-working and morally decent.
He was brought up by his father, Ramon, who instilled in him a sense of structure and morals. Stephen follows his father’s advice and pursues a career in engineering. He also marries Nancy, the woman he loved throughout his time in college.
Their relationship is characterised by love and respect for one another, but they are confronted with a big obstacle in the form of Nancy’s inability to conceive. The news that Nancy has a congenital defect that prevents her from becoming pregnant comes to Stephen and Nancy after they have spent years trying to conceive them.
Stephen opposes Nancy’s unselfish suggestion that he remarry in order to realise his desire of being a father. He does this in order to demonstrate his love and commitment to Nancy.
As a result of Stephen’s cousin Joseph, who is a gynaecologist, offering information on a new medical method that can be used to treat Nancy’s ailment, hope is rekindled. The treatment that Nancy receives is successful, and she goes on to become pregnant and birth twins named Adriano and Mario.
During the moment when Adriano is having trouble breathing, a dramatic scene occurs. Mario is placed next to Adriano, and both of the twins grin at each other, which is a symbol of the healing power of connection. The problem miraculously resolves itself.
