A young girl’s parents were worried when she kept scratching her neck, so they sent her to a doctor. However, when the physicians learnt the cause of the child’s itch, they were startled to learn that tiny Maya had entered Aaron and Emma Withington’s lives. Happy, the couple from Hutchinson, Kansas, had only been on their blissful parenting journey for seven months when they noticed a strange swelling beneath Maya’s jaw.

At first, it appeared to be a mosquito bite, and her parents tried to kiss it better, but it soon became apparent that this wasn’t a normal kind of swelling and that it was causing her some irritation as well. Aaron and Emma wasted no time in hurrying to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Centre.

After a thorough examination, the hospital’s doctors determined that Maya had a swollen gland. They gave her an antibiotic to reduce the swelling and sent her home in the hopes that she would get better. Given that Maya was their first child, Aaron and Emma were pleased with the outcome and thought it was a common occurrence with newborns.
