“Those in court didn’t kill my son,” says Senzo Meyiwa’s mother

The mother of the late Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa has made an emotional plea for the truth to come out, insisting that the men currently on trial for her son’s murder are not the real killers.
Speaking to the media outside court, she said her family continues to live in pain nearly eleven years after Meyiwa was shot dead at the home of his then-girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus in 2014. “Those who were in that house know what happened. They must come out and tell the truth so that my son’s spirit can rest,” she said.
Her remarks come as the long-running trial at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria continues to expose inconsistencies in witness statements and police investigations. Five men — Muzikawushe Dube, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Sifisokuhle Ntuli — are currently facing charges of murder, robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The case has drawn intense national attention, with many South Africans expressing frustration over delays and conflicting testimonies. The Meyiwa family has repeatedly voiced doubt about the state’s version of events, alleging a cover-up and calling for a fresh investigation into what they believe was an inside job.
Meanwhile, legal experts say the ongoing cross-examinations could either strengthen or weaken the prosecution’s case, depending on how new evidence and witness credibility unfold in the coming weeks.Senzo Meyiwa, who captained both Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana, was one of South Africa’s most promising football talents before his life was tragically cut short.
