Suspended General Sibiya claims Crime Intelligence is tracking him

Suspended Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, General Shadrack Sibiya, has revealed shocking details about alleged surveillance and intimidation by Crime Intelligence officials, claiming he is constantly being followed and monitored.
Sibiya said he has become a target within the police service, describing how he is “marked” daily by men believed to be linked to the Crime Intelligence division. He accused some of his subordinates of secretly working against him instead of reporting to him, adding that such actions have made it impossible to maintain peace and professionalism within the South African Police Service (SAPS).
“I have often found myself surrounded by Crime Intelligence officials, with men marking and following me daily and listening to my devices,” Sibiya said. “How can there be peace between you and the National Commissioner when your subordinate, who is supposed to be reporting to you, is also working on you?”
The remarks highlight the deep internal divisions within SAPS leadership, as exposed at the ongoing Madlanga Commission into criminal infiltration, corruption, and political interference in law enforcement. The commission has already heard allegations of manipulation of investigations, abuse of power, and the weaponisation of intelligence structures against senior police officers.
Sibiya’s testimony paints a troubling picture of mistrust and internal sabotage, raising concerns about the state of oversight and accountability in the police service. As the inquiry continues, the Madlanga Commission is expected to call more high-profile witnesses to uncover the extent of corruption and factionalism plaguing SAPS.
