Nolubabalo breaks the silence after removal as deputy president in Floyd Shivambu’s party
Floyd Shivambu’s newly formed Afrika Mayibuye Movement (AMM) has dismissed its deputy president, Nolubabalo Mcinga, citing political misconduct and breach of party protocol. The move follows allegations that Mcinga held an unsanctioned meeting with uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leader and former president Jacob Zuma without prior consultation or approval from the party’s leadership.
According to insiders within the AMM, the meeting raised concerns about Mcinga’s political alignment and commitment to the party’s collective discipline. The party leadership reportedly viewed her actions as a serious breach of trust, particularly given the AMM’s efforts to establish itself as an independent political force distinct from the MK Party and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
In a statement, the movement confirmed her removal, citing “conduct inconsistent with the principles and collective discipline of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement.” It also emphasised that political engagement with leaders of other parties must be formally sanctioned to prevent mixed messaging and potential factionalism within the movement.
However, Mcinga has rejected her dismissal, saying she still considers herself a member of the movement. “I remain committed to the ideals of Afrika Mayibuye. I did nothing wrong by engaging in dialogue with other leaders in the spirit of unity,” she reportedly told supporters.
Floyd Shivambu, who launched the AMM earlier this year after parting ways with the EFF, has vowed to maintain strict internal discipline and transparency within the organisation as it seeks to grow its national footprint.
The latest developments expose early signs of internal tension within the new party, as it navigates the challenges of leadership consolidation and political identity.
