“It is him” — Senzo Mchunu distances himself from Brown Mogotsi meeting

TheTabernaclestudio.opera.comSuspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has distanced himself from claims made by Brown Mogotsi regarding the controversial disbandment of the Presidential KZN Task Team (PKTT). Testifying before Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating alleged corruption and political interference in the police, Mchunu clarified that he had no discussions with Mogotsi during that period.
“It is him [Brown Mogotsi] who talks about arranging a meeting with me. Not me. I never spoke to Mogotsi in this period, particularly about the disbandment,” Mchunu stated firmly, dismissing suggestions that he had initiated or participated in any coordination to dismantle the unit.
The PKTT, which had been investigating several high-profile cases in KwaZulu-Natal, was controversially disbanded earlier this year—a move that sparked widespread criticism and accusations of political interference. Mchunu has maintained that his decision was guided by “operational restructuring,” not ulterior motives or personal vendettas.
Members of the ad hoc committee, including Julius Malema and Mdumiseni Ntuli, have been probing Mchunu on the reasons behind the decision and the communication between top-ranking police officials prior to the disbandment. The suspended minister has continued to insist that proper procedures were followed and that the decision was taken in the interest of improving coordination within the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Observers say Mchunu’s testimony has deepened the political tension within the security cluster, with each day of the hearings exposing new internal divisions among top police figures.
The inquiry continues this week, with more senior officials expected to testify on the chain of command and decision-making surrounding the PKTT disbandment.
