I’m not involved — Sibiya distances himself from Matlala tender claims

TheTabernaclestudio.opera.comSuspended Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, General Shadrack Sibiya, has defended his integrity, stating that he had no involvement in the controversial tender process linked to alleged underworld figure Vusumuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Speaking in response to allegations raised at the Madlanga Commission, Sibiya said he considers himself a competent and principled police officer who has always acted within the bounds of the law. He denied ever participating in or influencing the tender process in question.
“I had no involvement in that tender process whatsoever,” Sibiya said. “I did not even know that Vusumuzi Matlala was one of the applicants.”
The controversy stems from claims that senior SAPS officials may have interfered in procurement processes connected to Matlala, who has been accused of maintaining deep ties within law enforcement structures. Sibiya’s name reportedly appeared in documents referenced during testimony before the commission, which is probing corruption and criminal infiltration within the police service.
Sibiya’s denial comes amid increasing scrutiny of police leadership, with several high-ranking officials accused of protecting individuals implicated in organised crime. The commission, chaired by Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, is expected to determine the extent of such alleged interference and whether it undermined the integrity of the SAPS.
“I have always conducted myself professionally,” Sibiya added, insisting the allegations were part of a smear campaign aimed at discrediting his reputation.
The Madlanga Commission continues to hear testimony from witnesses, with further revelations expected in the coming days.
