The African National Congress (ANC) has welcomed its decisive victory in the Ward 2 (Matsale Pontdrift) by-election in Musina, Vhembe District, hailing the outcome as a clear endorsement of the party’s continued leadership and service delivery record.

In the results announced by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), the ANC secured 63% of the vote, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) with 14%, the Economic Liberation Front of South Africa (ELF-SA) with 8%, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) with 6%, and both the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the Build a Better South Africa (BABSA) movement — led by Lovemore Ndou — each with 6% and 3%, respectively. In a statement, the ANC expressed gratitude to the people of Musina for their confidence, describing the outcome as “a strong demonstration of commitment to the ANC’s vision of a united, non-racial, and prosperous South Africa.” The party also congratulated its local structures and volunteers for what it called “a disciplined and community-driven campaign that put the people first.”

Political analysts say the victory reaffirms the ANC’s grassroots support in rural Limpopo, even as the governing party faces increased pressure nationally from smaller emerging movements and opposition parties seeking to erode its dominance. The ANC has pledged to use this renewed mandate to accelerate service delivery in Ward 2, particularly in areas of infrastructure, water provision, and youth employment.

“This victory belongs to the people of Matsale Pontdrift. We will not disappoint their trust,” the party said.
