The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial continued with tense exchanges as defense lawyer Advocate Zithulele Ramosepele cross-examined accused number one, Fisokuhle Ntuli Sibiya, about an alleged conversation with a police officer that could implicate him in the soccer star’s killing.

Ramosepele asked Sibiya whether he had a private discussion on 30 May 2020 with Sergeant Mogola, during which he allegedly admitted involvement in the murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa. Sibiya firmly denied the allegation, insisting there was never any private exchange with the officer.

“No, I never spoke with her privately,” Sibiya said in court. “They were in a group at all times as police, and they asked me that question about the death of Senzo at Lethabong. I answered that I know nothing about it.”The exchange forms part of ongoing testimony testing the credibility of Sibiya’s earlier statements and the conduct of investigating officers during the interrogation process. The defense maintains that police fabricated or coerced confessions to strengthen their case, while the state argues that the accused were lawfully questioned and that the evidence points clearly to their guilt.

Observers in the courtroom noted the tension between the two sides as Sibiya continued to reject claims that he made any self-incriminating remarks. The defense has also hinted at inconsistencies in police procedures, arguing that the accused’s rights were violated during the investigation.

The Meyiwa trial, which has gripped the nation for years, continues to unravel complex layers of police conduct, witness credibility, and the search for justice for the slain Orlando Pirates goalkeeper.

The case resumes this week as cross-examinations continue.
