Residents of Kempton Park were left stunned after police arrested an illegal Zimbabwean national who had been running what authorities described as a “mini Home Affairs” operation. The man was allegedly producing and selling fraudulent documents, including Zimbabwean passports, South African IDs, and driver’s licences.

The arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation after authorities received tip-offs about the illegal activity. Upon searching the premises, officers reportedly found a variety of forged documents, printers, lamination machines, and other equipment used in the production of IDs and passports.

Police said the suspect had been operating for some time, targeting undocumented foreigners desperate for legal papers as well as locals seeking to bypass official Home Affairs procedures. The illegal trade is believed to have extended to multiple provinces, with some documents already in circulation.

Community members have expressed concern over the ease with which such fraudulent operations continue to thrive, warning that fake IDs could be used for crimes ranging from fraud to human trafficking. Immigration activists also say that this case exposes ongoing weaknesses in South Africa’s border management and document security systems.Authorities confirmed that the suspect will face charges related to fraud, forgery, and contravening immigration laws.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the syndicate and whether more arrests are imminent. This incident comes amid growing public frustration with South Africa’s immigration challenges, with citizens calling for tighter controls and stronger enforcement against illegal operations undermining the country’s security.
