A 25-year-old man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a secluded area, ignoring her desperate pleas for him to stop. The attack took place in Derby and was heard in detail during proceedings at Derby Crown Court.

Prosecutors told the court that Michael James, 25, dragged the woman into undergrowth before committing the assault. The victim, believing further resistance would only make matters worse, eventually stopped struggling.

Following his arrest, James denied the allegations and told police the encounter was consensual. His claim forced the victim to relive the ordeal while giving evidence in court. During the trial, the court heard that the assault had a lasting emotional impact on the victim, who has since received specialist support.

The judge described the attack as “deeply disturbing and predatory.” James is due to be sentenced at a later date. Authorities have encouraged survivors of sexual violence to seek help through dedicated support services, including the Rape Crisis helpline and other confidential resources.
