ANC KZN issues urgent notice ahead of Nathi Mthethwa’s burial

ANC KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Coordinator Mike Mabuyakhulu has called on mourners planning to attend the funeral of the late ambassador and former cabinet minister Nathi Mthethwa to arrive early and be seated by 08:30 a.m. on Sunday at KwaMbonambi in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Mabuyakhulu said the funeral will be a moment of reflection and national respect for a leader who dedicated decades of his life to public service. “We urge all mourners and invited guests to be seated by 08:30 in the morning so that the programme can proceed smoothly and with the dignity befitting a servant of the people,” he said.The funeral is expected to draw high-profile political figures, diplomats, and members of the public who worked closely with Mthethwa throughout his career. President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to deliver the eulogy, honouring Mthethwa’s legacy as a committed leader and a pillar of the liberation movement.

Mthethwa, who passed away last week, served in various ministerial roles, including Arts and Culture as well as Police, during his years in government. He was later appointed as South Africa’s ambassador, representing the country abroad until his passing. His death has been met with tributes from across the political spectrum, with many describing him as a disciplined and loyal cadre of the ANC who contributed immensely to the nation’s democratic journey.

Preparations for the funeral are being overseen by the provincial government in collaboration with the Presidency. Security measures are expected to be tight, with several roads in and around KwaMbonambi to be cordoned off to ensure the smooth running of the proceedings.

The service will include musical tributes, messages of condolence, and reflections from family, friends, and colleagues.
